So I have to meet with my professor to discuss my senior thesis for magna cum laude
And I wanted to come all prepared with the images I want to discuss and the thesis of my thesis (if that makes sense… what I intend to argue in the thesis paper due to qualify for honors)
But I’m like:
- How long is it supposed to be
- how much art theory should I include
- this should be more than just a silly class paper comparing images
- but how deep do I need to go into an issue
- so I should choose something significant?
- define ‘significant’
- you’re going to review this with a board of professors?
- so it should be awesome and thought provoking?
- what
- am
- i
- doing
- ….
- ….
- where do i find this stuff out
No but really, I’ve seen some other colleges take this shit SO SERIOUSLY like, their theses are something you have to work on for a year and you have to take a whole class on how to do it and shit. But MY STUPID COLLEGE is like… so you’re graduating in 3 months. Would you like to do a thesis? Decide in two weeks. Oh yeah, that’ll due a month before you graduate. So, right, you’d like to do a thesis? That’ll be due in 2 months KTHANKSBYE!
…
…
Wat.
Anyway, so I go to ask my prof. (that i’m already having to write a paper for) if she’ll “sponsor” me through this process. And she’s like yeah, but you know it has to be reviewed by a board, you know it’s due a month before my paper would have been due, you know that I’ll need your rough draft even sooner than that, yada yada yada and I’m like yes, good. Then she says, so it will need to be a little longer than what I’m asking of you in class (8-10 pages) but then she says (12-15)
So. How serious is this supposed to be? How am I supposed to come to her with a proposed topic TOMORROW when I’m not sure what she expects.
WHAT AM I DOING.
